Position: Nurse or Nurse's Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS
1. R.N. degree and licensed to practice in New Jersey.
2. Experience or background in school, visiting, or public health nursing an asset but not required.
3. Nurse's Assistant is required to be a nursing student or other health related field.
4. Both positions require CPR or First Aid Certification.
5. Required to attend camp for eight weeks of the camp season. Eligible to receive a salary.

RESPONSIBLE TO: Camp Director

GENERAL (BROAD) RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plan and carry out a program of health and safety.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Discuss health and safety procedures, precautions, and routines with staff during pre-camp training.
2. Record and report all infirmary admissions to Camp Director.
3. Establish special time of day for "sick call" in consultation with Camp Director.
4. Guide counselors in regard to their responsibilities in noting and reporting illness, injury, or unsafe practices and conditions that might contribute to camper or staff accidents. Also, in reporting campers' unusual dietary habits.
5. Administer all medications and treatments according to physician's orders and keep records of all such treatment.
6. Prepare first aid kits for emergency use to all counselors for use on hikes, other camps, and trips. Instruct all counselors in first aid methods. All such treatments must be reported back to the nurse for inclusion in daily reports.
7. Review all health records discussing particular items with the counselor concerned.
8. Remain at camp until the last person has departed.
9. Be responsible for any drugs, medicines, and first-aid kits brought to camp by campers and use as directed by physician of the camper (according to prescription).
10. In addition to the "close of camp" evaluation, make a written report that includes: equipment inventory, requisitions for next season, treatment records of campers and staff, infirmary and hospital admissions, visits to M.D., recommendations for health department and medical examination records, and records for insurance companies.
11. These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be re-assigned and other duties may be assigned as required.
